A MESSAGE TO PROSPECTIVE FACILITATORS

Dear Prospective Facilitator:
Thank you for expressing an interest in becoming a course facilitator.
We have had many people express an interest in being a facilitator and
we certainly want to select the very best to present our courses.  In
order to be considered as a facilitator, you must have taken one of our
courses.  Without having attended a course it is impossible for you to
know whether you agree with the course content and philosophy. (If you
do not need the graduate credit, you may take it at the non-credit fee.)

Since 1987 we have had thousands of educators become empowered by
one or more of our courses. Our mission is to provide dynamic quality
educational programs that will assist in empowering others to maximize
their potential and benefit the field of education. We are totally
dedicated to our mission and want to encourage others who believe in
this mission to be a part of this exciting vision. We are not interested
in people who just want a part time job for extra income.  We want
professionals who strongly believe in our mission and wish to help make
a difference in the field of education.

Enclosed you will find a rather detailed description of the requirements
and qualifications necessary to facilitate one or more of our courses.

After examining the enclosed material, please complete the INITIAL
INTEREST FORM and return it to us so we will know your intentions.  If
you indicate that you want to pursue the application process please
complete the initial interest form by October 1st and the other
necessary requirements by November 1st  to be ready for the following
summer schedule. (See enclosed forms in this packet.)

After we receive all requested information from you we will have a
better idea who might be best suited for our staff.  We select new
facilitators only one time per year so that they can begin teaching in
the summer.  All initial interest forms should be in by Oct. 1st and
applications and materials must be in by November 1st and we will notify
you no later than January 1st whether or not we will be able to use you
for the following summer.

If you are selected your status will be as an independent contractor .
That means that you will be responsible for reporting your own income
to the IRS as we will not be deducting taxes from your income.

After you have carefully read over the enclosed information, please
complete and return the requested forms and information by the specified
deadlines.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PROSPECTIVE FACILITATORS
The university is requiring us to seek out those educators with a doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.)or in the pursuit of such. A Master Plus is the minimum academic standard.

CHARACTERISTICS NECESSARY FOR A MASTER FACILITATOR

(If you are strong in the majority of the following areas, you will probably make an excellent facilitator for the Communicate Institute courses.If you are not strong in the majority of the following areas, you should probably not apply.)

FACILITATOR TRAINING PROGRAM
To prepare you, the following training /preparation is required:
1. Participate in the course as a student. If you wish to teach a course
and you do not need the graduate credit, you may take it at the
non-credit fee.  Once you are a C.I. facilitator, you may take any of
our courses for free on a non-credit basis. If you desire graduate
credit, you will receive 30% off the full credit price.

2. New facilitators are also required to attend/observe/assist another
veteran facilitator with the course. This experience may be performed
during the school year or early in the summer prior to the new
facilitator actually conducting his/her course(s).

The course selected must be with one of C.I.’s accomplished
facilitators.  This is part of the training and new facilitators will
not get paid for this.   C.I.T.D. will reimburse for travel, meal,
lodging expense for the Trainee session according to the facilitator's
Pay and Reimbursement Formula.

3. Attend a day and a half training session (Saturday & Sunday in the
Spring) for new facilitators. (To be held in Canton, Ohio.  Specifics
will be mailed later.)  Your room and board for this session is paid for
by C.I. During this session you will have an opportunity to present a
lesson from the course you will be teaching for C.I.

Philosophy & Vision of Communicate Institute
Set up of course.  Duties and responsibilities.
Methodologies & Format
Special Concerns
Dealing with resistance
Mixers and energizers
Discussion of overall goals and expansion format
Microlab facilitating experience from course

4. Those who author a course will be required to have a run-through of
the course in the spring with Nancy, Kurt and  a few other facilitators.
 
 

APPLICATION PROCESS

If, after carefully considering the information in this flyer, you wish to apply please follow the process of application below.
1. Call Communicate Institute and request a Prospective Facilitator's Packet which includes specific application information and financial information.

2. Fill out the Initial Interest Form and return to the office (usually by November 1st.).

3. The following items need to be submitted by December 1st:

4. Official transcripts verifying all college degrees (have them sent to Communicate Institute.)

5. Copy of current certificate(s) held

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Communicate Institute will perform the following:

Train, schedule, market/promote, provide materials, handle all pre-registration,and confirmations of the courses.

The Facilitator will:

1. Attend training sessions to prepare for course

2. Prepare course materials prior to the class.

3. Instruct the course in a professional manner grade (read) papers,and return papers if requested. Administer and grade test if required.

4. Turn in grades on time in compliance with instructions from C.I.

5. Conduct registration at course site and collect final payments and send to C.I.

6. Handle site problems as they may arise.

7. Turn in finalized statements, grades, and evaluations in time frame designated by C.I.

8. Return any course materials upon request from C.I.

9. Provide necessary A-V equipment. TV/VCR and Overhead if necessary.

The following information is needed by the date shown above:

1.  A  20 to 40 minutes  video tape (VHS) of you teaching, conducting
groups or interacting in a facilitative manner. There should be at least
10 minutes of lecture and 10 minutes of your facilitating.  This doesn’t
have to be professionally done, you may have your school media
department tape you.

2.   Typed Vita-Use Professional Biography form provided.

3.   Two letters of recommendation from someone who is familiar with
your presentation skills.

4.  A one page essay on why you wish to teach these programs (May be
handwritten or typed)

5.   A  list of books and other readings that you have read which relate
to and support the course material and topic area.

The following will need to be provided if you are selected as a
facilitator!

6.   Official Transcripts verifying all college degrees (have them sent
to Communicate Institute.)

7.   Copy of Current Certificate(s) held.

 8. A brief bio that may be included in our promotional  literature
